released some days ago ... There might not be obvious changes in this version but there are some important ones. The most important is the new decoding engine. They call it Nitrane MP3 and now supports MMX and AMD K3D ! Other changes include mousewheel support, MuceArch style playback controls in the system tray, modeless dialogs (you can still use WinAmp even if you have any dialog box opened). As for the skins, the new is that they can change the colors of the dialog boxes. This gives them more power, along with the transparency support since v1.91. The bad news is that CDA,MIDI and MOD input plugins were removed. This is temporary, according to it's creators, and the reason is that they were a bit buggy. |

WinAmp is the best mp3 Player available and, by far, the most popular one. Its major goal is the low CPU usage and the Hi Quality output it produces. It has a good playlist editor and a simple ID3 tag editor, along with a powerful equalizer. All these are packed in a cool, different from the usual application, interface. | |

Since version 1.90, WinAmp stopped to be just an mp3 player, but an open interface capable of playing many other sound formats. By adding an input plugin DLL (a decoding engine) for a sound format you can then play it from WinAmp. Until now, the supported file formats are CD Audio, Wave, MIDI and MOD. | |

WinAmp can also be used as an mp3 decoder. It is the easiest way to convert the mp3 files back to wav, using its "Silent Mode" or "Wav file writer" in v1.92. | |

Finally it supports streaming audio. It may not be as popular as Real Audio, but the mp3 quality is much higher then RAE at the same bitrates. | |
