| Pros |
Free mp3 encoder with it's own encoding engine. Produces
excellent quality mp3s. It has a very nice and easy to use interface |
| Cons |
Very slow. It needs more than half an hour for a 3.5
minute song. But we must admit that it is just version 0.07, and it has lot of
potentials. |

Windows 95 & NT. Based on Fraunhopher's 32 bit CODEC. |

| Pros |
The pros of Fraunhopher's CODEC; the best mp3 encoding
engine from the inventors of the mp3 format. |
| Cons |
I L L E G A L . The setup program contains a full version
of CODEC and installs it to your system directory, without paying a cent to Fraunhopher
institute. So the author's page was forced to shut down and all the sites that were giving
it have removed their links. You cannot download it from me and please don't mail me to
send it to you. (If you want to search for it, it is
distributed in a file called Mp3Compr09f.exe. Use FTP search engines like the ftpsearch.ntnu.no.) |

Shareware. Unregistered version allows you to encode up to
112 kbps. Registration costs $250. |
| Pros |
Produces excellent quality mp3s, without cutting anything.
The fact that is a command line program, does not bother anyone, since there are many
Windows front end programs for L3Enc. |
| Cons |
Slow 16 bit program. |
